Vancouver’s Queen of Soul comes to the Capitol Theatre
Get your soul on at Nelson’s Capitol Theatre when Vancouver’s Queen of Soul takes the stage on Thursday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Presented through a partnership between the Capitol Theatre and the Elephant Mountain Literary Festival, the concert will be followed by a lively panel discussion about storytelling through song, featuring special guests from among Nelson’s musical movers-and-shakers.
Vibrant, genuine and soulful, Dawn Pemberton has deep musical roots that take her powerful voice from gospel and soul to jazz and funk.
A staple of the Vancouver music scene, this versatile artist is known as a vocalist, pianist, teacher, adjudicator, choir director and “go to girl” for live performances and studio sessions. She hosts the funk, soul, and R&B radio show Get on The Good Foot on CKUA FM.
In a workshop hosted by the Elephant Mountain Literary Festival, local singer-songwriters have the opportunity to learn from Pemberton through “Sing me a Story”, a two-part workshop on the art of crafting lyrics that takes place September 13 and 14 from 6 – 9 p.m.
Workshop participants also receive a concert ticket.
Tickets for Dawn Pemberton’s concert are $20 ($15 for students) and available through capitoltheatre.ca or at the Box Office.
Registration for the workshop is via emlfestival.com or by email at [email protected] (subsidies are available).
The Capitol Theatre and the Elephant Mountain Literary Festival wish to acknowledge the support of the British Columbia Touring Council in bringing Dawn Pemberton to Nelson.
