Mallard's Team of the Week — Team West Kootenay
Team West Kootenay, consists of players from Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Rossland and Kelowna, picked up a Silver Medal in Mixed Slopitch at the 2022 Canadian Senior Games in Kamloops.
Team West Kootenay dropped a heartbreaking 15-12 decision to host Kamloops in the Mixed Slopitch Championship Friday.
The setback did not cloud as successful week at the Canadian Senior Games for Team West Kootenay, which lost only two games during the Mixed Slopitch tournament.
Team West Kootenay finished the round robin draw with a 3-1 record, advancing to the final with a 14-2 win over Saskatchewan in the first round of the playoffs and a 23-11 decision over Team Ontario in the semi finals.
Team West Kootenay team competes in Mixed Slopitch sport, where teams must have seven men and three women on the field at any given time, and all participants must have turned 55 that year, at the very youngest.
Team West Kootenay enters the tournament with a gold medal finish at the BC Senior Games hosted by Kimberley-Cranbrook in 2018. The squad followed the medal with a silver in Kelowna at the 2019 BC 55-plus Senior Games.
