Outstanding warrants, driving prohibitions keep NPD busy Canada Day weekend
Canada Day long weekend was busy for Nelson Police the Department as officers dealt with calls ranging from outstanding warrants to intoxicated drivers.
In a media release Tuesday, Nelson Police said the weekend began with Canada Day festivities at Rotary Lakeside Park on Friday, July 1, that were well attended by the public.
Officers conducted sporadic park patrols on the waterfront to deal with a few intoxicated individuals.
However, Nelson Police said there were no arrests.
Two arrested due to outstanding warrants
On Saturday, July 2, during the afternoon, officers were called to Lakeside Drive and Hall Street for a woman screaming.
Nelson Police said the “woman” ended up being a male causing a disturbance.
Officers checking the male showed the man with several outstanding warrants.
Nelson Police said the male was arrested and is being held pending a court appearance.
Later that evening police were called to the ATM area of a local bank.
Nelson Police said a shirtless man in the ATM was found to have outstanding warrants and was arrested and released the following day after appearing before a Judge.
Poor decision-making results in Driving Prohibitions
On Saturday, July 2, Nelson Police dealt with some long weekend revelers who decided to make poor decisions.
During a two-hour period, officers served four 90-day Immediate Driving Prohibitions with 30-day vehicle impoundments to drivers in the City.
Officers continued through the night dealing with open liquor and another driver who was issued a 24-Hour Driving Prohibition.
