Man taken to hospital following altercation with police in Krestova
RCMP said a man was taken to hospital for medical assessment following an altercation with police in Krestova Wednesday evening.
In a media release Thursday, police said Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 7:44 p.m., the Nelson RCMP received a report of an intoxicated man displaying signs of potential self-harm.
Nelson RCMP said the 28-year-old man, while outside of his residence in Krestova, discharged a firearm before attempting to flee the scene in a vehicle.
The man crashed the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area, taking the firearm with him.
Police set up containment and were able to take him into custody without incident after a lengthy stand off.
“When firearms are involved, the element of danger is elevated,” said Cpl Derek Pitt, Detachment Commander, Nelson RCMP.
“We are thankful that no one was injured.”
RCMP said the man, taken to hospital, is scheduled to appear in court in October 2022.
