Black Jack edges Nelson Nordic at Teck Kootenay Cup

The Nelson Nordic Ski club finished second at the Teck Kootenay Cup cross country races this past weekend at the Apex Trails.

Nelson hosted the event with a large contingent of racers, but narrowly lost out to Black Jack Ski Club of Rossland in the overall standings.

Skiers from Invermere, Golden, Fernie, Kimberley, Rossland and Valhalla Hills joining the host club Saturday and Sunday at Apex and Busk courses in the final two Teck Kootenay Cup races of the season.

On Saturday, skiers had a great sprint course set up including a famous bumps – one athlete even did a star jump in the air (new sport – aerial cross country for the next Olympics).

On Sunday, the individual classic course wound through the big forest on the Busk side of the highway.

For some young racers it was their first time in a race with skiers showing plenty of enthusiasm for the event.
