The Nelson community has quickly rallied to the aid of a local couple and their infant daughter through a GoFundMe campaign.

On October 24th, the infant daughter of Yuki and Will, Poppy was flown with parents via medi-jet to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver after it was diagnosed that fluid was building up around her heart.

On Saturday, October 30th, doctors performed surgery to surgically remove fluid around Poppy’s heart.

“It’s been a couple really hard nights in the ICU but (Monday) Poppy is doing better and her vitals have improved,” the GoFundMe post said.

“The doctors still need to monitor her closely and more tests and procedures may be required to determine a cause but today we are feeling cautiously optimistic.”

To ease the financial stress and allow parents Yuki and Will to focus on caring for Poppy, a GoFundMe campaign was created.

The funds raised will reduce the financial burden of the family that has had to miss work and live in Vancouver for the duration of Poppy’s medical treatment.

“We are confident that (Poppy) will get through this with all her smiles and cuteness intact,” the GoFundMe post said.

“If you are able to offer any monetary support at this time, we would be so grateful.”

As of Tuesday morning, the campaign had surpassed its $5,000 goal, with $7425 raised.
