Busy summer for Grand Forks RCMP

Grand Forks RCMP Detachment Commander Sergeant Darryl Peppler said in a media release that calls during the summer of 2021 were higher for the Boundary City than compared to the same period in 2020.
Sgt. Peppler said from July 1 to August 31, 2021, Grand Forks officers attended to 577 calls for service compared to 531 during the same time in 2020.
“It was a busy summer for my officers,” said Sgt. Peppler.
“On top of the calls for service that we respond to, a considerable amount of time is set aside for other areas of policing, such as proactive measures (traffic enforcement and curfew checks), mental health matters, and other social issues, in particular homelessness and drug/alcohol addiction matters.”
Sgt. Peppler said that calls at Christina Lake dropped from 205 in 2020 to 142 in 2021.
“One reason for the drop was that normal seasonal policing was suspended this year as resources were needed to assist with all the wildfire activity throughout the province,” Sgt. Peppler said.
