Nelson Road Kings 2021 Queen City Cruise — CANCELLED

The recent surge in new COVID-19 cases in the BC Interior, including the Nelson area, has forced the Nelson Road Kings to cancel its 2021 Queen City Cruise.
Nelson Road Kings president Marcello Piro told The Nelson Daily the upward trend of new COVID-19 cases was a warning sign that organizers just could not push aside.
“With COVID numbers trending upwards in our area at an alarming rate, it was felt by our directors that the safety or our community comes first,” Piro explained.
“Our participants are typically the 50- to 70-year-olds who could be at risk if the Delta variant is circulating in our area.”
Since 2003, spectators have filled Baker Street for that annual Queen City Cruise that includes a Friday parade and Saturday Show’n Shine in early September.
After cancelling the event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Road Kings organizing committee was pleased with the downturn in new cases during early summer and decided in July to plan to host the 2021 edition of the Queen City Cruise on September 10th & 11th.
But for the past few weeks the COVID-19 numbers have been steadily climbing, which was enough for organizers to call off the car show that boasts hundreds of entrants from across Western Canada and parts of the United States during the second weekend of September.
“Hopefully our community will see the curve bend downwards so that everyone, especially the elderly, can resume a life without restrictions,” Piro said.
“And (Nelson Road Kings) look forward to hosting a show in 2022.”
