The Nelson Road Kings executive has decided to go ahead with planning to host a 2021 edition of the Queen City Show’n Shine car show.

“Just to let you know, we plan to have a car show on September 10th & 11th,” Nelson Road Kings president Marcello Piro told The Nelson Daily.

Following an executive meeting this week, organizers decided to start the planning process for 2021 show, that tradionally hosts hundreds of entrants from across Western Canada and parts of the United States the second weekend of September.

Piro said there a few reasons for the decision by Road Kings executive, but the main push is to help local business hammered by the recent pandemic.

“(Queen City Cruise) will help provide Nelson merchants with an economic boost,” Piro explained.

“(Plus) there has been an outpouring request from car enthusiasts to come to our show as they see it as one of the top shows in BC.”

Since 2003, Nelson Road Kings has hosted the annual Queen City Cruise, in early September.

However, like many other events in 2020, COVID-19 pandemic forced organizers to cancel the annual car show.

But with those provincial health restrictions hopefully easing in September, along with numerous inquiries from car enthusiasts, the executive decided to go ahead with the popular, two-day event.

“Car shows in general have been canceled over the past two years and because (Queen City Cruise) happens to occur during (BC’s Restart) Stage 4 of (provincial health restrictions), people are just looking for an event they can attend,” Piro said.

Shifting into Stage 4 of BC’s Restart can happen no earlier than September 7, 2021, a few days before the Queen City Cruise.

But Stage 4 comes with an increased capacity of large organized gatherings, like a concert; Canada-wide travel, return to normal personal gatherings and social contact as well as an increase outdoor and indoor spectators.

Piro said so far, we have had people reach out from as far as the Okanagan, Kamloops, Vancouver Island, Alberta, and Saskatchewan areas asking about the Queen City Cruise event.

He also said car show enthusiasts from as far away as California also want to attend as they love seeing and talking with their Nelson friends and family.

Final approval for the event will depend on pandemic restrictions being lifted closer to the date.

However, Road Kings encourage anyone wanting to participate to preregister and book your rooms early.

“The Nelson Road Kings looks forward to seeing you in September.”
