The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) awarded Special Operations Accreditation on 19th July 2021 to Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association (KERPA) in British Columbia.

KERPA  is the first organization in Canada, and third in the world, to receive full Special Operations Accreditation through CAMTS.

CAMTS has over 25 years of experience as a leader in publishing standards and providing accreditation to medical transport systems. In 2019 it developed and approved the accreditation standards for agencies that support specialized medical operations for government and non-government agencies around the world.

KERPA is a registered charity and sends a volunteer EMS physician, in a dedicated ground unit, directly to the scene of immediate threat to life 911 calls in the Kootenay Region.

"We work in collaboration with the British Columbian Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), supporting the emergency services," the KERPA  media release said.

"Our response vehicle is fully equipped with advanced medications and equipment. We are capable of providing roadside ultrasound, video laryngoscope, rapid sequence intubation, surgical procedures, cardiac monitoring and advanced cardiac arrest care. In addition, we can provide tactical emergency casualty care and are trained and equipped to support the emergency services in this role."

The mission of KERPA  is simple — to save lives, help the critically ill & injured and support the emergency services.

"With over 500 primary missions in the Kootenays we are delighted to receive one of the most prestigious certifications in the Emergency Medical Services Industry," the KERPA  media release said.
