Due to the extreme heat the region is experiencing, the City of Nelson is providing two dedicated cooling centres to the community this week.

“If you, or someone you know needs a place to cool off and would like some respite from the heat, please go to a cooling centre,” the City of Nelson media release said.

“Or another airconditioned facility, such as a retailer or friend’s home,” the release added.

City staff said asks that people check in on their neighbours, especially seniors or those with disabilities, to ensure they are safe.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat stroke, please call 9-1-1.

Cooling Centre Information:

  • For Seniors – Seniors Centre at 717 Vernon Street
  • General Public – Curling Club Lounge at 302 Cedar Street

Cooling centres are open from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Monday through Friday
