Even though spring is the season on the wall calendar, winter is not quite ready to leave the Boundary/West Kootenay.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass Saturday afternoon.

Environment Canada said high elevation snowfall is expected Saturday night and into Sunday, with amounts near 15 cm.

“After a relatively mild day today, an intense cold front will cross the B.C. interior on Sunday,” the Special Weather Statement said on the Environment Canada website.

“Snow will begin tonight with snow levels near the passes, so only the highest elevations will receive snow. Blustery winds are also expected to give reduced visibilities at times in blowing snow.”

Environment Canada said  as the front passes on Sunday evening, snow levels will drop quickly to the valley bottoms.

“ In the wake of the front flurries will continue with further snow accumulations expected,” Environment Canada said.

Environment Canada said weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Road conditions are available at DriveBC.
