The City of Nelson is holding a By-Election for the vacant council seat after former councillor Brittny Anderson resigned to sit as the NDP MLA for the Nelson-Creston riding in the BC Legislature in Victoria.

Three candidates — Nicole Charlwood, Josh Wapp and Brenton Raby — will be on the ballot when Nelsonites go to the polls on Saturday, March 27th.

Today, The Nelson Daily showcases Josh Wapp as one of the candidates running to join Nelson City Council.

Josh Wapp, a candidate in the Nelson City Council by-election, says he is running for the experience so he can move on to become a career politician, a councillor, a Mayor, an MLA, and maybe even a Cabinet Minister.

Wapp said he has big dreams for Nelson, ascribing to the Forge Ahead slogan the city has used for decades:

  • condos on top of the Big Orange Bridge (B.O.B.)
  • extending the airstrip by filling in towards Blewett, to become a fully serviced airport.

As for day-to-day operations, Wapp wants more management and administration to effectively bring Nelson’s stature into a more world class destination and place to bring in high profile investors.

“Unfortunately, we’ll have to tighten our belts to make it happen; higher taxes and/or fees and a temporary reduction in service will be key to creating a robust, sustainable, vibrant, progressive city with unique focal points of interest,” Wapp explained.

For example, can you imagine a Soviet Russia-sized statue of Don Cherry outside the hockey arena?”

“Dream Big with Josh Wapp” is one of Wapp’s slogans.
