The City of Nelson is holding a By-Election for the vacant council seat after former councillor Brittny Anderson resigned to sit as the NDP MLA for the Nelson-Creston riding in the BC Legislature in Victoria.

Three candidates — Nicole Charlwood, Josh Wapp and Brenton Raby — will be on the ballot when Nelsonites go to the polls on Saturday, March 27th.

Today, The Nelson Daily showcases Brenton Raby as one of the candidates running to join Nelson City Council.

Hello.

I’m Brenton Raby, candidate in the Nelson by-election happening on March 27th at the Prestige Hotel.

Campaigning during the COVID pandemic has defined new ways that candidates reach out to voters. The Nelson community has done a great job in bringing candidate information forward and getting the word out about the upcoming by-election. Candidates have also been respectful and considered in their positions.

Nelson City Council process ensures that councillors consider a broad spectrum of information from staff, delegations and individual citizens. Amendments and options are debated openly by council for each bylaw.

As a long-time participant in Nelson government process, I have experienced the impacts of the successes and shortcomings of city operations and bylaws.

While I haven’t been happy with every council vote, I very much admire the process and if elected, I will commit to joining Nelson council in working hard, being prepared and operating within the city’s proper authority.

I admire the progress the current council has made on many items, large and small, and envision the role that I can play to compliment and help Nelson City Council keep forward momentum.
