Mallard's Team of the Week — 1968-69 Nelson Bantam Reps

Nelson Bantam Reps, many who consider is the best minor hockey team to come from the Heritage City, captured the BC Bantam Championship in 1969 with a best-of-three series win over the North Shore Winter Club.

Mallard’s Source for sports, taking another step back in time to spotlight teams from Nelson, is honoured to select the Doug Grimston Provincial Bantam Champs as Team of the Week.

The Bantam Reps, coached by Marsh Severyn and Mas Fujibayashi, became the first team from Nelson Minor Hockey to capture the BC Bantam title.

The Bantams also snapped a 23-year consecutive win streak by Trail, claiming the first Kootenay Championship since 1945-46.

Nelson, with a few of its players advancing to play in the National Hockey League, won the Doug Grimston Provincial Trophy with wins over Rossland, Trail, Kimberley and Prince George before knocking off North Shore Winter Club.

The team includes, Tony Poch, John Maddalozzo, Danny Gare, Wayne Naka and Randi Miller, Colin Henthorne, Pat Price, Marc Severyn, Charlie Hingwing, Alan McLeod, Jack Pozney, Marc Isenor, Brian Watson, Bob Bachynski, goalies Tony Russo and Dave Platt, George Karasz, Captain Dale McMullin and coaches Marsh Severyn and Mas Fujibayashi.
