Days after rescuing a trio of fishermen from a cool night out on Kootenay Lake, the Kaslo Search and Rescue recognized some of its members with individual awards.

“Like so many organizations, Kaslo Search and Rescue recently resorted to an online Christmas gathering to, well frankly, relax a little and celebrate the recognition of some members for outstanding contributions,” the Kaslo Search and Rescue media release said.

“For a region with a population of not much more than a thousand people, the local Search and Rescue agency (performed) as many searches and rescues as Central Okanagan Search and Rescue did in 2019 which serves a region of 160,000 people.”

Kaslo Search and Rescue said while 2020 moved at a frenetic pace it appears already as though 2021 is on track to increase the workload for the local volunteer group with five call outs already since January 30, 2021.

“It is for this reason the organization is very thankful for the support of Angry Hen Brewing, Kaslo Building Supplies, Kaslo Pharmacy, Rally4Life and Stellar Heli-Skiing who have sponsored the awards for several years,” Kaslo Search and Rescue said.

The individuals recognized for the awards were:

  • Robyn and Glen Skobalski — Rally4Life Presidents Award
  • Kevin Connor — Angry Hen Brewing Top Rookie or the year
  • Chris Cullen — Kaslo Pharmacy Heaviest Backpack award
  • Jana Poborilova — Stellar Heli Skiing most improved technician
  • Hayley Walker — Kaslo Building Supplies most volunteer hours
