Mallard's Team of the Week — 1974-75 Nelson Junior Maple Leafs

As all junior hockey players in BC, including the Nelson Leafs of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, patiently wait to get the green light from provincial health officials to re-open play in the current stalled season due to the coronavirus COVID-19, Mallard’s Source for sports takes another look back a few decades at the 1974-75 Nelson Junior Maple Leafs.

The team at the time featured a squad of Nelson Minor Hockey players making the step from minor hockey to the junior ranks to represent the Heritage City in the KIJHL.

The team, coached by former great skipper Fritz Koehle, toiled in a league that consisted of teams from the East and West Kootenay.

Mallard’s salutes the Nelson Junior Maple Leafs as Team of the Week.

The team includes, coach Fritz Koehle, Manager Ron Jacobsen and players, , Pete Tazelaar, Terry Jacobson, Gary Wood, Cam Douglas, Grant Apostoliuk, Doug Marquardt, Pat O’Bara, Bruce Weinrauch, Tony Poch, Dave Taylor, John Severyn, Lee Keller, Greg Bonneville, Greg Emory (G), Pat Keller, Dwight Davies, Doug Davies and goalies Nick Morris and Greg Emory.
