The first major snowfall of the winter season caused the usual fender-benders in the City of Nelson Friday morning.

Environment Canada said a Pacific front dropped approximately 20 cms of snow early Friday morning, with an additional 5-10 cms expected as snow becomes mixed with rain in the valley bottoms.

Friday morning, on Stanley Street, Nelson Police and City of Nelson Public Works crews worked together to deal with a school bus that skidded into a parked car.

The street was closed to traffic with tow truck moved the parked vehicle allowing Public Works to clear and sand the street before the bus was able to move away safely.

Also Friday morning, slippery streets forced Nelson Transit to temporarily stop bus service within the city.

Drivers are asked to consider non-essential travel until the storm clears and conditions improve as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become dangerous due to accumulating snow.
