SAR teams recover body of missing woman involved in motorcycle accident near Kaslo

Kaslo Search and Rescue said in media release Tuesday the body of the missing woman involved in a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon west of Kaslo has been found.
Kaslo Search and Rescue managers, Robyn and Glen Skobalski said woman’s body was located Monday afternoon in the Kaslo River.
“Unfortunately (the woman) had not survived the ordeal,” Skobalski said.
Kaslo Search and Rescue were contacted following a motorcycle accident 15-20 kilometers west of Kaslo Sunday afternoon.
The motorcycle ended up in the Kaslo River. The male driver, in his 70’s, was able to swim to shore.
However, the 60’s aged female passenger was swept down the river. Both occupants riding on the motorcycle are from the West Kootenay.
The Kaslo SAR organized a search for the woman which began Sunday evening and went until dark before resuming again Monday morning.
The Skobalski’s said other ground search and swift water teams were called in to assist from Revelstoke, Nelson, Castlegar, South Columbia, Rossland and Grand Forks.
Chris Armstrong, a B.C. Swiftwater Specialist, arrived and was able to oversee and direct the swiftwater teams and did a stellar job.
The Skobalski’s said this search and rescue was a great example of team work between multiple SAR teams.
Kaslo Search and Rescue would like to extend their appreciation to all the teams involved as well as to the many volunteers, including as well as Kaslo Sourdough for use of property for Command Centre, who came out to assist with food and water and all the intricacies involved in running a multiple team operation.
