Another staple event hosted in the Heritage City has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nelson Lions Club announced the executive is extremely sad to say for the first time in the 75-year history of the our local Lions club, organizers are unable to host the annual spring/summer fundraising events  — July 1st Canada Day Pancake Breakfast and Lions Park Family Fun Day.

“We are a service club first and foremost, whose mission it is to serve and support our local community,” the Nelson Lions Club release said.

“These annual events have always provided generous donations and allowed us to donate all monies collected back to the community. Traditionally, the Nelson Lions Club has contributed an average of $20,000.00 annually back into community support programs and organizations as well as sponsoring LVR grad students among others.”

The Lions Club said in order to continue to support the community through this challenging time, organizers have been offered an amazing opportunity by Fresh Air Cinema who is partnering with FortisBC to offer families a way to enjoy a night out with their loved ones while staying safe in light of COVID-19 with 100% of proceeds going to our local club and returned to our local food programs right here in our community.

“In a time when we’ve had to adapt to physical distancing, and when so many families and friends have been forced to spend time alone in their homes, we’re excited to once again bring the joy of drive-in movies to families across the province,” said Jason Bashnick, Managing Director, Fresh Air Cinema.

“These offer a place where we can all connect safely and watch our favorite stories on screen under a starlit sky. It’s also a unique experience that allows family members to crunch homemade popcorn and slurp soda as loud as they like without bothering the people around them.”

Dates will be June 28 and June 29 in Nelson. Location, tickets info and details to follow.

The Lions Club thanks the community for its continued support and looks forward to its community food programs that are so valuable and support our greater community.
