UPDATED: Police continue investigation into vandalized vehicle near Burton
Nakusp RCMP have located the vehicle in question believed to be associated with a vandalized vehicle near Burton earlier this week.
In a media release Friday, RCMP said the registered owner of the black Jeep FJ with a white roof has come forward and contacted the Nakusp RCMP after observing reports in the media.
“RCMP no longer believes the owner or occupants associated to this vehicle had any involvement in relation to this incident,” RCMP said.
Police are still requesting assistance from the general public in regards to this still ongoing police investigation.

Police asking for public assistance after vehicle vandalized near Burton
Nakusp RCMP is asking for public assistance following vandalism of a vehicle near Burton Tuesday afternoon.
RCMP said in a media release an orange Jeep, parked at the flats, in Burton, was reported to be vandalized between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“The owner of the vehicle, a local Burton resident, returned from fishing with his son and discovered that someone has smashed the windows, headlights, and mirrors of their vehicle,” the RCMP media release said.
“Investigators believe that the brake lines of the Jeep had also been tampered with. Damage was also noted to the tail lights on their boat trailer.”
Police said they are looking for an unknown man and a woman associated to a black Toyota FJ with a white roof were reportedly seen near the vehicle prior to the damage being discovered. Nakusp RCMP is requesting information regarding the identities of either the man or woman, or any other information that may assist investigators.
