The Mount Sentinel Wildcats tuned up for the BC High School Championships by capturing the Kootenay Single-A Boy’s crown recently in Sparwood.

The Wildcats ousted five other teams for the title, Fernie, Fernie Academy, Golden, Salmo and host Sparwood, defeating Fernie Secondary in the best-fo-five final 3-0.

The Kootenay Zone Championship caps a great season for Mt. Sentinel Boys.

After winning the 8-team Kootenay tournament at the start of their season, Mount Sentinel finished third at an 8 team tournament in Vernon, ninth at a 32 team tournament in Kelowna, fifth at a 28 team tournament in Kamloops and tenth at a 16 team tournament in Lake Country. All of these tournaments had the best teams at all levels A, AA, and AAA competing in them.

As a result of their season record, MSSS is currently ranked the #2 team “A” Boys Volleyball in BC while Vernon Christian School holds down the #1 spot and are last year’s returning champion.

The next action for the Wildcats is the Provincial Championship being hosted by Mt. Sentinel this year during the week of November 21 – 23.

The 16-team tournament is being played at Selkirk College Gym in Castlegar and LVR’s Gym in Nelson. Spectators are welcome to attend.

Mallard’s Source for spots would like to salute the Wildcats as Team of the Week.

The team includes, coaches, Glen Campbell and Javan Johnson and players Aaron Spurge, Mike Hennelly, Reilly Podovelnikoff, Will McLeod, Kyle Kabatoff, Ti Loran, Ryan Pearce, Xavier Moore, Chase Stoochnoff, Dylan Strelaeff.
