Letter: We can’t thank them enough

On the November first weekend the Creston Curling Club held a benefit bonspiel for the Nelson Curling Club, to help Nelson pay for repairs to their ice plant.
The Bonspiel raised almost $10,000, and is a first of its kind in this area and perhaps anywhere in Canada. The Creston Club worked extremely hard using volunteers as usual to put on the four-day event. Many donations of all kind were received by many businesses, individuals and organizations alike. It was a tremendous show of support for the curling community, sports and recreation, and a great example of people helping people.
The Creston Curling Club is blessed with big hearted and community minded members, and their curling club and community complex are a wonderful example of how volunteers can work together to build a better life by providing a home base for the people in the Creston Valley, which has become an oasis of health, and well being for a small community.
The Nelson Curling Club is struggling to make ends meet and has recently received a 30,000 donation from the city to help repair the plant, the club is still waiting for funding from two main Regional District of Central Kootenay Areas E and F.
The city also passed a resolution in council this year to support curling and recreation and the city manager Kevin Cormack has reached out to CAO and CFO Stuart Horn at the Regional District to begin discussions on recreation and curling, however the Recreation Commission’s Directors have not yet approved those discussions.
Curling has never been subsidized in Nelson like other ice related sports.
