As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, which is taking place May 5-11, the City of Nelson and Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) will be testing their Emergency Notification Systems at approximately 10 a.m. Pacific time on Monday, May 6.

The RDCK and the City of Nelson use separate systems to notify residents and visitors of critical information. Anyone who has signed up for both City of Nelson and RDCK Emergency Notifications, should receive two tests.

What if you don’t receive the test?

  • If you are already registered in one or both systems, log in and double-check that your email address, mobile phone or land-line numbers are correct.
  • If your information is correct but you didn’t receive the test, please advise us as follows:

o   RDCK: scoutu@rdck.bc.ca or 250-352-1539

o   Nelson: hslack@nelson.ca or 250-352-3103

About the Notification Systems:

The City of Nelson Emergency Alert System is used to send out critical information to residents and visitors who have signed up for the City if Nelson. It is used in the case of an emergency or disaster that requires you to take specific actions as well as sharing of important information regarding emergencies. It is not used to share non-critical information. Notifications are sent out via text, voice call or email, depending on your preference.

The RDCK Emergency Notification System allows the RDCK to send out critical information to residents and visitors that have signed up for the entire region. It is used in the case of an emergency or disaster (such as wildfires, flooding, hazardous spills) that requires you to take action — whether that means you need to evacuate or shelter in place. It is not used to share non-critical information or ongoing updates. Notifications are sent out via text, voice call or email, depending on your preference.
