The Capitol Theatre is wrapping up the 2018-19 season with a bang as CBC Radio’s Ali Hassan comes to the Heritage City.

Hassan, host of CBC Radio’s Laugh Out Loud, a frequent guest host on Q and the host of Canada Reads, will be at the Capitol Theatre Saturday, May 18th at 7:30 p.m.. as part of his  stand up comedy show Muslim Interrupted.

CBC television viewers may remember the Actor and Stand-Up Comedian from his season as the lead comedy panelist on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight.

Hassan does not practice Islam, which can challenge people’s notions of what a Muslim should be – he has trouble explaining to his children why their Muslim family doesn’t go to the mosque — and why he eats pork.

The nuances between religion and culture are not always easy for many people to understand, let alone for a five year-old. He described Muslim, Interrupted as an exploration of the “ins and outs” and “stops and starts” with Islam. His hope is that, through the show he can both entertain and inform while demonstrating the similarities between Muslims and their fellow citizens.

The show ran at both Just for Laughs in Montreal and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Ali has received accolades and an enormous amount of press coverage in the past two years as he tours it in major cities across Canada.
