Introducing the Nelson Community Food Centre
New name, but stil the same great cause.
Effective immediately, The Nelson Food Cupboard has a new name — it’s now the Nelson Community Food Centre (or, the “Food centre,” for short).
The name was announced in a recent media release. The new name better describes the organization’s range of programs — Good Food Bank, Food Skills, Garden and Harvest Rescue — and it signals its joining of the now 11-strong national community food centre network.
The Food Centre’s partnering with Community Food Centres Canada provides access to a proven program model; multi-year funding; shared evaluation, communication, and fundraising services; ongoing mentorship; and the opportunity to learn from other Community Food Centres. Programs will continue to be developed to answer the unique needs of Nelson and area, and local fundraising efforts will continue.
Though the Nelson Community Food Centre has a new name and is always evolving, the four core programs will remain the same. Like all food centres across Canada, our local food centre works toward created welcoming, dignified spaces that bring people together to grow, cook, share, and advocate for good food for all. The ultimate goal is to use good food as a tool to improve the health and well-being of low-income people in Nelson and area.
