During  Fire Prevention Week from October 7-13, Nelson Fire & Rescue Services is hosting an open house.

There will be live demonstrations, information booths on Fire Prevention, FireSmart and Emergency Preparedness, trucks to explore, activities for the kids, free BBQ lunch and contests to win a 72 Hr Emergency Kit and a chance to be named “Jr. Fire Chief for the Day” and with some luck might even run into Sparky.

The Open House will be October 13th, 2018 from 12-3 p.m., at 919 Ward St.

Fire & Rescue Services encourages everyone in our community to check their smoke alarms – they save lives!

Alarms older than 10 years need to be replaced, whether hard-wired or battery operated. Alarms need to be tested once a month and have batteries replaced once a year (minimum).

If anyone needs assistance checking or installing an alarm, they should contact Nelson Fire Rescue at 250- 352-3103 for this free service.

Anyone with questions or concerns about smoke alarms, Nelson’s FireSmart program, Emergency Preparedness or fire safety in general, please do not hesitate to contact us  at 250-352-3103 – we are here for our community.
