For the past 30 years during the month of July the Capitol Theatre turns into a musicaltheatre school.

The Capitol Theatre’s 30th Summer Youth Production, The Hunchback of Notre Dame sees the lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story on stage on July 26th, 27th & 28th.

Withstudents practicing lines, songs and dance moves in every nook and cranny of the building, this year’s dedicated group of students and directors are hunkered down with The Hunchback of Notre Dame and all of it’s glorious challenges.

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, and Peter Parnell’s newbook embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel.

The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be Out There, observes all ofParis revelling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her freespirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the threevie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies – and it’s up toQuasimodo to save them all. A tale of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.

Quasimoto is played by Dune Macdonald, Julia Halbert plays Esmeralda, and KosmoSammartino is the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo. Come join us for this summer’s epic production in the lovely (air conditioned!) Capitol Theatre!
