No one was injured after a fire started in a house on Heroux Beach Road north of Nelson Monday morning said North Shore Fire Department Chief Fred Schneider in a media release.

Schneider said North Shore Fire Department received the fire call at 8:30 a.m. to 4108 Heroux Beach north of Nelson when the homeowner discovered the blaze after opening the garage.

“The owners of the house were sleeping in the motorhome beside the home as they were in the middle of moving out, and most of the furniture have been removed,” Schneider explained.

“The fire has been burning for a number of hours before it was discover by the owners.”

Schneider said when firefighters arrived on scene the fire was burning around the gas stove in the living room, having burned through the floor and into the floor joist in the crawl space of the house.

“The owner did try to extinguish the fire by using a couple of fire extinguishers, in which at this time he notice the fire has gone through the floor,” Schneider said.

North Shore Fire Department, which responded with five trucks and seven firefighters, was assisted by Balfour Fire Department’s two trucks and four firefighters.

Schneider said BC Ambulance as well as RCMP also attended the fire scene, located approximately 14 kilometers north of Nelson on Highway 3A.

Schneider said although the fire remains under investigation it is not deemed to be suspicious.

Schneider said the North Shore Fire Department is always looking for volunteers. Anyone interested in joining is asked to contact the North Shore Fire Department at (250) 825-9487.
