More than 400 singers to perform in Mass Choir performance

Have you noticed an increase of people humming in the grocery store line up or singing in their car? Maybe you have overheard your neighbour belting out Coldplay’s “Fix You” while mowing the lawn?

There’s a reason, and you’re invited to see what it’s all about!

The Capitol Theatre has teamed up with Allison Girvan to produce FIREWORKS, an incredible choir experience for singers and audience alike. Approximately 300 members of the community, have been individually practicing for the upcoming performance on Saturday June 9th.

Directed by Allison Girvan, the community singers will also be joined by members of the Corazón Vocal Ensemble as well as visiting singers from the Western University’s Community Through Choral Art program led by Jennifer Moir.

Audiences can expect the arena to become a voiced instrument. The echoing acoustics suit this type of performance; with that many singers, the space will swell with sound. If you have never experienced a mass choir, prepare to be enveloped by song.

The coordination of hundreds of singers is unique; all registrants received links to soundfiles to practice with, accompanied with emailed instructions and support from Allison Girvan.

Everyone has been practicing on their own, in small groups, as a family and insmaller choir groups. It’s a truly exceptional experience for singers.

FIREWORKS features Five pieces – including Coldplay’s “Fix You” and Bon Iver’s “Flume” –  with a total performance time of approximately 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased through the Capitol Theatre Box Office and website (any tickets purchased online or  over the phone will be available for pick up at the NDCC prior to the performance), as well as at the door at the Nelson & District Community Complex prior to the 4 p.m. performance.

All tickets are $10.

Come and join in on the largest choir experience in Nelson’s history.
