Tuesday saw traffic on Front Street near Hall Street, at times, grind to a halt as commuters adjusted to crews blocking off access from Hall Street to Lakeside Drive due to the beginning of Phase II of the upgrades.

This closure for the Hall Street Project Phase II allows contractor to begin the work of installing two large storm sewers and one sanitary sewer under the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks.

City of Nelson staff said the work in the 100 Block of Hall Street is anticipated to take six (6) weeks.

During that time access to Lakeside Drive will be via the new detour route on Cedar Street.

City staff encourages drivers to observe the new three-way stop signs at the foot of Cedar Street, the additional signage near the CP tracks adjacent the west entrance to Chalko Mika Mall and proceed with caution while traveling these areas.

Green construction fencing that has been installed across Hall Street will be moved more towards the tracks, once the receiving pits to facilitate the boring work under the CP tracks have been established.

The City would like to thank the local businesses for their cooperation during this disruption in the use of the 100 Block of Hall Street.

The City remains committed in keeping traffic moving and ensuring access to businesses along Hall Street and Lakeside Drive. The City requests that the public remain patient during the construction and to continue to support the businesses along Hall Street and Lakeside Drive.
