Bombers rock at Kamloops RugbyFest
L.V. Rogers Bombers teams did not look out of place during the recent Kamloops RugbyFest this past weekend in Spoolmak Country.
The Bombers Senior squad finished with a 3-1 record, suffering its only defeat at the hands of a touring Hale squad from Australia. Hale posted a 24-0 victory over LVR.
The Bombers opened with a 12-0 win over West Island and 27-5 victory over Nanaimo before losing to Hale. In the final contest, LVR blasted North Thompson 27-0.
“Relmu Wilson-Valdez played extremely well as a graded 10 playing up to senior,” said Bomber coach Michael Joyce.
The LVR Junior Boy’s finish 2-1 with wins over Gilford of Surrey, 24-0, and South Kamloops 12-0. The only blemish came in a game against West Island.
“Henry Lieshman was a star for the juniors, using his boot to devastating effect,” Joyce said.
The Bombers defeated Maple Ridge 12-5 and Lake City in Girl’s Rugby play, losing to Norkam of Kamloops in a close contest.
“Girls have a huge group this year over 40 players,” Joyce said.
The Bombers return to action Wednesday in Castlegar at a playday against other West Kootenay High Schools.
Joyce said the Bomber Rugby program is still searching for players Grade 8 and up to play this year. “It’s not too late to join especially at the junior boy’s level,” he said.
