Kimberley grabs lead in Kootenay Conference Final
The Kimberley Dynamiters are one game away from advancing to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Final.
Matt Davies scored twice and Cody Campbell pitched a shutout to lead the Nitros to a 4-0 victory over the Nelson Leafs in Game five of the Kootenay Conference Final.
Kimberley leads the best-of-seven series 3-2 and can book a ticket into the KIJHL Championship with a win Friday in Nelson.
Kimberley scored twice in the first period to take the early lead.
Brandt Bertoia and Davies, shorthanded, gave the Nitros all the goals they would need.
Davies, in the second, and Bryce Mcdonald in the third, completed the scoring for Kimberley.
Campbell made 31 saves to register his second shutout of the series. Caiden Kreitz, starting in place of injured Josh Williams, took the loss in goal for Nelson which was outshot 37-31 in the game.
More than 900 fans packed the Kimberley Civic Centre to watch the top two teams in the Kootenay Conference square off.
Game time Friday is 7 p.m. at the NDCC Arena.
If Nelson wins, the deciding Game seven will be played Sunday afternoon back in the Bavarian City.
In the Okanagan Shuswap Conference, the series between Osoyoos and Revelstoke is tied 2-2.
The series resumes Friday in Revelstoke.
