UPDATED: Snowfall warning continues for Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass

Environment Canada continues to caution drivers traveling Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

“A low pressure system continues to bring snow to Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass,” the website said.

“The snow is expected to persist tonight through Friday.”

Environment Canada said total snow accumulations of 30 to 40 cm can be expected by late Friday.

“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.”

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Snowfall Warning continues into Thursday

It’s coming again.

Environment Canada is calling for a Snowfall Warning Wednesday night into Thursday, with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.

Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, is expecting total amounts of 20 to 30 cm.

“A Pacific frontal system will give snow heavy at times to the Boundary and West Kootenay regions starting this (Wednesday) evening. Total snow accumulations near 15 cm can be expected before the snow changes to rain late Thursday morning,” Environment Canada said.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”

Snowfall Warning for Highway 3, multi-vehicle accident near Grohman Park

Winter not quite done yet? Absolutely, looking outside.

And Environment Canada is saying there’s more to come after issuing a Snowfall Warning for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass Wednesday with total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm expected.

“An approaching Pacific frontal system will bring heavy snow to Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass,” Environment Canada said.

“A few flurries this morning will become snow heavy at times tonight and the snow will continue into Thursday morning. Total snow accumulations up to 25 cm are expected before the snow changes to rain Thursday afternoon.”

Environment Canada said the public should be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions as rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

On Highway 3A Wednesday morning, west of Nelson near Grohman Park, police dealt with a multi-vehicle accident that slowed traffic in and out of the Heritage City.

West Kootenay Traffic services attended to assist Nelson RCMP.

RCMP said a single vehicle off-road right with a single occupant who received minor injuries and as a result of that crash, there were three other vehicles involved in a minor collisions with each other.

Police said weather conditions were changing at the time right around freezing resulting in deteriorating road conditions. Speed relative to the conditions was a factor.
