Selkirk Pro-Musica Concert Series presents Noémi Kiss at St. Saviour’s Pro-Cathedral

There’s still time to capture a Valentine’s Day treat as the Selkirk Pro-Musica Concert Series is proud to present Argenta-based Hungarian soprano Noémi Kiss Monday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the beautiful St. Saviour’s Pro-Cathedral.
She is joined by a trio of fine musicians to present a concert of love songs that bridge the gap between classical and popular music.
Born in Hungary, Noémi studied at the Academy of Music in Budapest and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has sung in many of Europe’s finest concert halls interpreting many of opera’s most famous characters and performing some of classical music’s most loved works such as Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, and Mozart’s C minor Mass. She has also performed many significant works from early music, including a 2003 recording of Pergolesi’s Marian Vespers with the New College Choir and the Academy of Ancient Music under Edward Higginbottom, which earned nominations for both a Grammy Award and a Gramophone Classical Music Award.
Kiss has always been a believer in blending musical styles. Having grown up listening to jazz, blues, pop, and musical theatre, she has enjoyed experimenting with other styles of music that would complement her classical vocal training. For this concert, she has selected works that are atmospheric, that convey moods and emotions instead of strict structure. She hopes to show the similarities between the different styles of music, rather than their differences.
To accompany her at this concert, Kiss has brought together three great musicians from the Columbia Basin. Sue Gould, a pianist living in Golden, has studied with a number of inspiring teachers in both classical and jazz disciplines and has performed throughout Alberta and BC in a variety of musical situations. Jesse Lee is well-known in Nelson and beyond as a multi-instrumentalist and has performed extensively with spoken word artist Shane Koyczan. Bassist Rob Fahie has earned degrees in both classical and jazz performance and has performed in some of the world’s premier jazz clubs and concert halls.
