RCMP, Municipal Police officers recognized by Alexa’s Team in the Southeast District

MADD Canada, ICBC, the RCMP and supporters of Alexa’s Team gathered at Quigley Elementary School in Kelowna, on Wednesday, to recognize police officers named to the 2016 Alexa’s Team in the Southeast District area of the province. 

Sixty police officers from various RCMP Detachments, Traffic Services units and Municipal Police Forces from the Southeast District area — including  members from Nelson Police Department, Grand Forks RCMP, West Kootenay Traffic, and the West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety Unit — assembled at Quigley Elementary School on Wednesday, May 10th, 2016 and were inducted into the ranks of Alexa’s Team 2016 for their efforts in ensuring the road safety of motorists in the province.

Alexa’s Team is a program that recognizes dedicated police officers throughout B.C. who diligently work to reduce the number of drivers on the road affected by alcohol or drugs. The team is named for Alexa Middelaer who was killed by an alcohol impaired driver in 2008, while feeding a horse with her aunt in Delta, B.C.

The top cop for the entire Southeast District was, Constable Lisa Schmidtke (located in photo, front row, second from right) of Nelson Police Department currently dispatched to the West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety Unit.

Since 2008

  • Alexa’s Team members have processed more than 79,379 impaired driving sanctions for alcohol and drug related driving offences. 
  • The total number of Alexa’s Team members has grown from 26 to 2,154 and includes officers from all regions of the province.
