City plays role of ‘Oscar’ as it changes rules of curbside garbage pickup

A total of 13 reported injuries involving garbage collection duties in Nelson in the last five years have prompted the city to make a move that might be unpopular with some homeowners.

City council has accepted amendments to its Waste Management and Wildlife Attractant Bylaw following an internal Occupational Health and Safety review, conducted to investigate the rash of injuries sustained by staff while collecting garbage.
