Winlaw hosts Ice Carving Event in New Year
Ever have an urge to carve something in ice?
On Saturday, January 7th the Slocan Valley Arts Council will be sponsoring a Winter Ice Day in front of Sleep is For Sissies in Winlaw from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is a free event which will be hosted by three internationally known ice sculptors who just happen to live in the Slocan Valley.
Peter Vogelaar of the Winlaw Ice Sculpting Team will be providing all the tools and instruction to get a lucky group of people on their way to creating a masterpiece in ice in a matter of hours.
All you need to bring is some warm clothes and gloves (rubber is best) as well as your enthusiasm and imagination.
The team has carved out 12 blocks of ice from a pond in Winlaw which are just waiting to get some attention. A fun day, come out and watch the carvers at work, or become a carver yourself.
They already have set up an ice slide for the kids to enjoy and Sleep Is For Sissies has an large, active ice rink set up for families to enjoy.
Anyone wanting to reserve a block of ice you can contact Vogelaar at [email protected] or phone 250-226-7479.
The event is free, but donations for for the Arts Council will be gratefully accepted.
Sleep is For Sissies can be found on Highway 6 just before you enter Winlaw.
