Thursday (May 26th) the Art Party returns to Nelson.

The Art Party, a popular monthly arts showcase, will be teaming up with Blue Night Arts Festival to deliver a fabulous night of performance, connection and inspiration, featuring an eclectic cast of talented musicians, dancers, spoken word artists and painters.

The show starts at 8 p.m., at the Royal on Baker.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $10-$20 sliding scale at the door with all proceeds going to the artists.

Among this month’s performers are HarpPixie trio, which according to the group’s website might be “the only trio on the entire planet combining Udu and Cello with Harp, Vocals, and Spoken Word.”

The band Garuda will also be playing, which boasts members like Jason Deatherage who has played on and produced major label and Juno nominated albums, as well as Steve Pierson, who had one of his musical arrangements featured in a short film for National Geographic.  Other musical acts include singer-songwriter Juniper and Hugo St-Denis.

Fans of dance and hip-hop can look forward to the captivating Zanzibar Rose, a dance teacher and performer who describes herself as being ignited by the power and confidence in hip-hop culture and movement.

Gemma Luna will also be performing — attendees can expect a one woman acappella orchestra with beat-boxing and vocal harmonies, using both written and free-style lyrics with a fluid style that embraces R & B and hip hop.

The event will be all-ages before 10 p.m., so bring your kids for dancing and face-painting. Children under 12 can come for free. After 10 p.m., the event will be 19-plus as per the establishment’s regulations.

“Art Party is a token to step into this web and raise our hands for life and the awesomeness that we constantly give birth to by being who we are,” said event organizer Zaynab Mohammed.

“This month’s event promises be a one of a kind evening, not to be missed.”
