A rowdy patron is facing a list of charges following an incident at a downtown Nelson nightclub early Sunday morning.

Nelson Police Department Sergeant Dion Falcone said the charges stem from the suspect returning to threaten nightclub staff after officers initially gave the man a chance to leave the premises without being arrested.

“The accused ended up being charged with seven counts of failing to comply with a Probation order, Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine) for the Purpose of Trafficking and Obstructing a Peace Officer,” Falcone said in a media release.

Falcone said the initial call came in to dispatch at 1:45 a.m. Sunday (April 24) where nightclub staff reported that an unknown male refused to leave the bar.

Falcone said police attended within minutes and advised the local male to stay off the property and move on.

Police were then dispatched to another priority call.

Falcone said within 40 minutes, staff at the club called the police again reporting that the unknown male had threatened staff.

“Nelson Police attended and arrested the accused for uttering death threats,” Falcone said.

The accused is currently in police custody and is scheduled to attend Rossland Provincial Court on Thursday (April 28).
