Lakeside Greenhouse taking shape
The long-awaited Lakeside Park greenhouse structure is close to being a reality.
City Public Works crews have been working this week on erecting the “curved eave” model greenhouse from Everlast Greenhouses and Solariums Ltd structure at Lakeside Park.
The former greenhouse was destroyed during the windstorm June 2015 storm.
City staff had been waiting for the insurance claim to be settled before looking to rebuild the greenhouse.
However, during a February council meeting, the city agreed last week to foot the bill in advance for the greenhouse — a total of $81,700 — and assume the risk of the outcome of the insurance claim.
This past week Public Works crews, after pouring the walls for the greenhouse, have been busy putting together the facility.
Work on the shell is expected to be completed this week. Work crews will then be pouring the floor in the near future which will allow Green Thumbs a chance to start the growing season, indoors, very soon.
