RCMP seek public assistance after single-vehicle accident near Proctor sends driver to hospital with life-threatening injuries

Const. Bill Long of the Nelson RCMP said police, with the assistance of the RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, are investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred (Thursday) February 11, 2016 at approximately 9:30 p.m. on the Harrop Procter Road just east of the turn off to Sunshine Bay in the Procter area.
Long said the lone male occupant suffered life threatening injuries and was transferred to Vancouver where he is currently being treated.
“The vehicle the victim was driving, a blue 2007 Toyota Rav4, appears to have been traveling at a high rate of speed as it was heading east toward Procter, entered a right hand curve, the vehicle continued straight, caught the north shoulder, lost control and came to rest against a stand of birch trees below the roadway,” Long explained in the RCMP media release.
“When the vehicle came to rest against the tree the engine compartment caught fire and the lone male occupant was pulled away from the wreckage by a passer by.”
Long said the initial investigation reveals that speed appears to be the main contributor to the collision however, police are seeking help from anyone who may have observed this vehicle or driver earlier in the evening that lead up to this crash.

He said the investigation into this collision is still ongoing.
