There’s a new Sheriff, err, Chief on the block in Nelson.

After five years at the helm of Nelson Police Department, Wayne Holland stepped down from his position of Chief Constable at NPD.

During a ceremony Friday, Deputy Chief Paul Burkart was sworn in as the 21st Chief of Police for Nelson.

Saturday, Holland, formerly with Vancouver Police Department, was honoured for his years in Nelson during a retirement dinner at the Best Western Plus Baker Street Inn.

Holland, receiving numerous accolades during the evening, was presented with many gifts, including one by the current Nelson Police Board.

Holland and wife Eileen, who recently published a children’s book, plan to return to the Lower Mainland where much of their family reside.
