It may be early in the season, but Dave McLellan may want to start rustling the junior hockey bushes for a goal scorer.

For the second time this season the Nelson Leafs failed to score, falling 4-0 to the Osoyoos Coyotes in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Saturday in the South Okanagan City.

Ryan Morrell scored twice as Osoyoos held period leads of 2-0 and 3-0.

Bobby LaRue and Daniel Stone also scored for Osoyoos, which finished the game out shooting the Leafs 41-30.

Former Leaf Brett Soles got some payback against his former team, stopping all 30 shots to register the shutout between the pipes.

Joe Barton took the loss in goal for Nelson.

Nelson opened the two-game road trip with a 6-2 loss to Princeton Posse Friday.

Once again Nelson fell behind 2-0 after the first period and never recovered.

Six different players from Princeton shared in the scoring, Sunil Sahotafinished the contest with four points — one goal and three assists.

Rookie Emmon Miller paced Nelson with both goals.

Stephen Heslop stopped 33 of 35 shots to register the win in goal.

Everett Yasinski took the loss in goal for Nelson.

Nelson, 3-3 on the season, returns home to face front-running Beaver Valley Nitehawks Friday at 7 p.m. in the NDCC Arena.

ICE CHIPS: Nelson finishes the month of September with a 3-3 record. Only once has Nelson managed to score more than two goals in the a game — September 18 vs Spokane Braves. That makes 14 players on the team who have yet to find the back of the net. At the other end of the ice, Nelson has surrendered at least four goals on two ocassions and six goals against Princeton.
