Stores To Shores Weekly Update — Paving to shutdown Baker/Hall intersection
Nelsonites will want to take notice of the temporary roadway and pedestrian crossing at the intersection at Baker and Hall Streets Thursday (July 23) and (Wednesday) July 29 so that paving between the 500 and 400 blocks can be completed said a City of Nelson media release Monday.
“The closure will happen over two days, between Thursday, July 23 and Wednesday, July 29, and will last from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.,” the release said.
“Maglio Installation crews will be starting their days extra early to limit the impact of the closures.”
“Baker Street needs to be prepped for the new asphalt,” the release adds.
The paving comes after installation of shallow utilities, storm sewer and irrigation lines.
Other news for the Stores to Shores project include:
- The 300 block of Hall will remain closed to all vehicle traffic due to deep, open excavation. But pedestrians can still get up and down Hall, by using the staircase that goes along the west side of street, in front of Dr. Bibbys, Juice FM and Kootenay Co-Op Radio.
- Concrete and asphalt crews are making quick progress along the 400 and 500 blocks and IODE Park.
- The Social Steps and deck out front of Bibo, Boomtown and Gericks are finished up. Landscaping should start shortly. The new IODE staircase should be open this week, as should the new sidewalk in front of Sidewinders.
- In addition to the concrete banding and curbing, the sidewalk in front of Sidewinders will be poured and done next week, with landscaping to follow.
- On the 400 block, prepping and installation of sidewalks in front of Itza and Devitos will begin next week too. There’ll be multiple pedestrian detours in place to allow crews to complete the work safely and efficiently. Paving will continue too.
