It maybe spring but the Nelson Leafs are already putting the pieces together for winter and action in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

The Leafs welcomed a full contingent of hopefuls at a Prospects Camp this past weekend at the NDCC Arena.

Thirty players and five goalies from the Lower Mainland, Alberta and the BC Interior attended the three-day camp, which concluded Sunday with the Allstar Game.

The camp, which also attracted former Leaf players and members from the Kootenay Ice BC Major Midget team, can only help a Leafs franchise that struggled to land players last season after coach and GM Dave McLellan was hired in late summer for the position.

Some of the players at the Prospects Camp will be invited back for the Leafs’ Spring Camp set for May 15-17 in Nelson.

The Leafs main camp goes September 4-6 with the KIJHL pre-season to follow.

The franchise hosts its Annual General Meeting Wednesday, May 20.
