Kamloops RCMP said a man has died from an apparent self-inflicted injury Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called approximately 2:10 pm Tuesday (December 9) regarding a domestic incident that had occurred in the downtown core.

RCMP were concerned the male suspect was going to attempt to contact children associated to him at RL Clemitson School on Todd Road.

As a precaution the school was locked down until it was determined that the male was not in the immediate area. Police then lifted the lockdown and children were allowed to leave with their guardians.

The suspect vehicle was eventually observed by the police helicopter travelling in the Lac Le Jeune Road area.

As police cordoned off the area, the suspect vehicle went off the roadway. When police were able to safely approach the vehicle, it was determined that a lone male occupant in the vehicle was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted injury and a firearm was recovered in the vehicle.

The deceased male is a 40-year-old Kamloops resident.

Kamloops RCMP would like to thank School District 73 for their assistance and the parents of RL Clemitson School for their patience and understanding during this incident until we determined that the children could safely leave the school.
