Everyone is welcome to the opening reception of Amy Bohigian: Wide Shot/Close Up, on Friday Nov.14, from 7-9 p.m. at Touchstones Nelson.

Bohigian’s new video installation explores identity and diversity within our community. After placing a ‘casting call for real people’, she asked t 25 people from various walks of life the same five questions on camera: “How about this weather we’re having?,” “How do others label you?,” “What would you like to say to someone you love or hate?,” “What do you see in this mirror?,” “Can you pick your favourite song and dance to it?”.

Their answers and expressions reveal both individual experiences and universal characteristics of the human condition.

The edited responses will bepresented on multiple monitors, TVs, mp3 players and on a projector, creating an animated, interactive environment. Normally Bohigian’s films are seen in cinemas and at film festivals; this is the second video installation that she has presented in a gallery setting.

Amy Bohigian owns and operates Watershed Productions based in Nelson where she direct and produces socially relevant documentary films and videos. She is also this years’ Cultural Ambassador for Nelson.

The exhibit will run from Nov.15 to Feb.15, with the opening reception on Friday, Nov.14, 7-9 p.m.

An Artist Talk will be held on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Touchstones Nelson: Museum of Art and History is located at 502 Vernon Street.
