Nelson Chamber hosts Canada Day Celebrations at Rotary Lakeside Park

Canada is celebrating its 147th birthday Tuesday.

And the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce is rolling out the red carpet on another day of Canada Day celebrations July 1 (Tuesday) at Rotary Lakeside Park.

“Canada Day is a major Chamber of Commerce event each year, and a tremendous family oriented celebration of our greater community, with thousands of people attending from all over the region,” Tom Thomson Executive Director of Nelson and District Chamber of Commerce said in a prepared statement.

Thomson said the Chamber has hosted this annual community celebration for many years, and it is with great pride that we honor Canada, with a community wide celebration. 

“We start early and end late, but the Chamber is pleased to organize and host this community and regional  celebration,” Thomson said.
 
One of the highlights (see schedule below) each year is the serving of our Canada Day birthday cake, followed with live music and all kinds of fun-filled activities for kids of all ages.

There is also free rides on Streetcar #23 sponsored by the Nelson and District Credit Union.
 
The entire day is organized by the Chamber of Commerce and sponsored in part by Celebrate Canada, The City of Nelson, The Nelson Professional Firefighters, as well as several community minded businesses and individuals.
 
“The event Is made possible by the participation of numerous local musicians providing day long musical entertainment, as well as upwards of 25 community groups and non profit organizations setting booths throughout the park,” Thomson explains.
 
The entertainment is lined up for the stage from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., culminating with the annual tremendous fireworks display beginning at dusk.

Thomson said there is something for the entire family with long standing participants such as the Heritage Harmony Singer, the Nelson Community Band, and Playmor Junction. Dallas Wolbaum and Johnny Mcquaig, to Blue Grass by Mountain Station, to Blues from the likes of Big Mama Blue, White Lightning Blues Band,  Little Dave and Blues Busters, The Jon Burden Blues Band, and more.
 
“We look forward to seeing everyong throughout the day on July 1st in Rotary Lakeside Park,” Thomson said, adding on behalf of the Board of Directors wish everyone a Happy Canada Day.
