Man from Washington State killed during bear hunting trip

Houston RCMP are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man from Washington State during a bear hunting trip in the BC Interior.

RCMP were advised of a shooting Monday (May 26) 3:15 p.m. in the Tahtsa Reach Forest Service area which is approximately 112 kilometers south of Houston.

Upon attendance to the scene, police located a deceased 59-year-old male who had been shot.

The man is an American citizen who was in the area bear hunting with guides.

All parties involved in the incident have been spoken to by police.

Houston RCMP are being assisted in the investigation by the North District Major Crime Unit, the North District Forensic Identification Unit and the BC Conservation Service.

The BC Coroners Service is also conducting an investigation into the death.

With the assistance of American authorities in Washington state, the family of the deceased has been notified, however, his name and further details of the incident are not being released.

The investigation is ongoing.
